Practice · Diesis

A guitar tab maker that plays back what you write.

Tap a line and a number, or play it on the neck. Add the signs, set the tempo and the time signature, then listen: your tab, played in time, as fast or as slow as you like.

It works right here: no account, nothing to install.

This is one tool. Diesis keeps them all in one place. Every tool, your bests and your teacher's homework, kept for you.

Tab maker

What it does

  • Write it your way

On a phone, a number pad or the neck itself; on a computer, the keyboard: digits for the fret, arrows for the string, letters for the signs.

  • Every sign you need

Hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, bends, vibrato, muted strings, palm mute, harmonics, ties, rests, dots and triplets, in values from a whole note to a sixteenth.

  • Hear it back

Your tab becomes sound, bar by bar, at the tempo you set. Loop a part and speed it up as it comes together.

  • Any tuning, any strings

Six, seven or eight strings, standard or drop, and the tab follows your tuning.

How to use it

  1. 01

    Set the piece up

Tempo, time signature and tuning, once.

  2. 02

    Write the notes

Pick a string, type a fret, move on. Choose the value of each beat; add a sign to a note with one key or button.

  3. 03

    Listen and fix

Switch to Listen. Anything wrong, go back to Write: the tab is kept in your browser, and in your account if you have one.

Questions

Is this tab maker free?

Yes. It works on this page with no account, and your tab stays in this browser. An account keeps it on every device, with the rest of your repertoire.

Can it play the tab?

Yes. Listen plays what you wrote at the tempo of the piece, bends, slides and palm mute included, with a count-in and a click if you want them.

Can I write tab on my phone?

Yes. On a phone you write with a number pad or by tapping the neck; the tab fits the screen and scrolls.

Does it open Guitar Pro files?

Not here. Teachers upload Guitar Pro and MusicXML files to their library in Diesis and set them as homework, played back inside the app.

What about rhythm?

Every beat has a value, from a whole note to a sixteenth, with dots and triplets, so the playback is in time, and the tab is drawn with its rhythm when you listen.
