Diesis has no account and no advertising. What you choose, score and write in Diesis stays in your browser, unless you send it yourself in a link to your teacher or student. How Diesis is used is measured, with Google Analytics and PostHog, only if you allow it.

The app

Diesis runs entirely in your browser. It does not ask who you are, does not create an account, and does not send your answers, scores or settings to me or to anyone else.

Your score for a session is held in memory and disappears when you close the tab. Everything else you choose or earn stays in your browser's local storage, on your device only: your guitar (strings and tuning), how notes are named, your personal bests and the challenge you last picked, the metronome's settings (including a speed-up plan), the finger exercise's settings and your fastest clean runs in it, what you last picked on the neck, the part of Learn you were in last, the Theory lessons you have finished and where you left the one open, how far the interval exercises ask and which scale and chords Build the scale and Build the chord ask, the part of the neck the reading and tab exercises ask from and whether riffs come with power chords, light or dark if you picked one, whether a playing score scrolls with it, your guitar type, scale length, style of play, whether you play more lead or rhythm, and string gauges, your practice log (your goal and what you write each day), the pieces in your repertoire (their titles, composers and tags, the tabs you write, their YouTube links, the parts you marked and your speed in each, the tempo you set and reached with each sheet) and your sets, and what Classes keeps (see below). None of it is sent anywhere unless you send a class link yourself. The Erase my data button in your profile removes it, and so does clearing the site's data.

Classes and homework

If a teacher uses Diesis with you, or you teach with it, what goes between you travels inside a link: one way, the homework, the next class, the teacher's note, materials, program and what the teacher counts as learned; the other way, how far each homework got, the minutes you played on each of the last seven days, your fastest metronome tempo and what you wrote in your practice log. You choose when to send it and to whom, by WhatsApp, email or however you like. The data goes after the # in the address, a part browsers never send to a server, so it never reaches Diesis; whoever has the link can read it.

On your device, Diesis keeps your students and what you prepare for them (if you teach), the classes you received and what you ticked (if you learn), and a record of what you do in each tool: minutes per day, your fastest tempo and your exercise scores, for four months. That is what lets a homework say how far you got. It stays in your browser's local storage like everything else, and Erase my data removes it.

The analytics, if you allow them, never receive the part after the #.

Cookies

Diesis sets two cookies. One remembers the language you picked; the other remembers your answer to the analytics banner. Neither holds anything about you.

This website

diesis.app is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) for a short time to run the service and keep it safe.

If you allow it in the banner, the site loads Google Analytics 4 and PostHog, to see how Diesis is used and make it better. Google counts visits, with each page's address but never an invite code or what comes after the #, and sets its own cookies for that.

PostHog records which pages and tools are opened, for how long, how fast they load and from what kind of device; what you click (inside the app, without the words on it), but never what you type; and named actions: signing in, adding a student, setting or opening homework, starting and ending the lesson call and how long it lasted, starting the metronome, finishing an exercise and its score, opening the demo class and each step of its tour, and which button brought you to the sign-up. Never names, notes, codes or anything you write. It also records the screen as a replay of the page: on the public pages the fields are hidden; inside the app every word, field, picture and video is hidden, so only the layout and where you click are seen, and the lesson call's picture and sound are never recorded.

When you are signed in, PostHog links this to your account by its number (a random id) with your role, teacher or student, and your language: not your email or your name. PostHog keeps a random identifier in your browser's local storage and stores its data in the European Union. Each processes the data under its own privacy policy, and only because you allowed it. If you decline, nothing from Google or PostHog is loaded, and you can change your mind by clearing the site's cookies.

The tuner's microphone

The tuner listens through your microphone only while it is on, and only to work out which note you are playing. Your browser asks for permission first, and you can take it back in its settings whenever you like.

The sound is analysed on your device, a moment at a time, and thrown away. It is not recorded, saved or sent to me or to anyone else.

Backing tracks and Repertoire

The backing tracks page shows thumbnails served by YouTube (i.ytimg.com), so YouTube sees your IP address when the page loads. The video player comes from youtube-nocookie.com and loads only when you press play on a track; from then on YouTube's privacy policy applies to that video. Diesis sends YouTube nothing about you.

In Repertoire, when you paste a YouTube link your browser asks YouTube for that video's title and channel (youtube.com/oembed). When you open a piece, YouTube's player script loads from www.youtube.com and the video from youtube-nocookie.com, so YouTube sees your IP address and its privacy policy applies to that video. The pieces, the parts you mark and the speeds you reach stay with the rest of your settings, as described above.

Links to Amazon

Some pages link to searches on Amazon.es with my Associates store id, so Amazon can tell the visit came from Diesis. Nothing is loaded from Amazon until you click, and Diesis sends Amazon nothing about you; once you are on Amazon, its own privacy policy and cookies apply. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Feedback

If you send the feedback form, what you write (your name, your message and your email if you give one) is emailed to me through Resend, together with the page you sent it from, the language, your guitar setting and your browser. It is not kept anywhere else: it stays in my inbox and I use it only to improve Diesis and to answer you.

Children

Diesis collects no personal data from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published here with a new date. It will never quietly start collecting data.
